Varekai

Varekai means wherever in the Romany language.  The story of Varakai is a re-imagining of the Greek myth of the Fall of Icarus.  In the story after Icarus falls he lands in a forest of wonderfully strange creatures. His fall itself is particularly spectacular. The creatures are colorful, whimsical and yet strangely organic.  Eiko Ishioka did a beautiful job designing these costumes.
Each act was so precise and exciting. In between acts during  what I assume are costume changes and set rearrangements are small acts of comical relief. My favorite of these acts were Ne Me Quitte Pas.  This act is simply the male clown character lip synching all while chasing the spotlight.  My second favorite act is the Russian Swings. In this act performers are propelled by a Russian swing and from that swing they tumble through the air onto a net. They jump from swing to swing as well. It is in this act that the rousing music begins and it signals the end of the show.
All in all this show is magnificent. If you get the chance to go I would honestly recommend it.  I have a whole new appreciation for the human body and imagination and what they can accomplish together.  Bravo!
Also my son went as well (yep my 3 month old) and he enjoyed it. He eventually went to sleep after about 15 minutes but during the portion that he did see he was thoroughly amused.

A Mini Haul: Target & Ulta

Okay so in true Dee fashion, this past weekend I decided to treat myself to a little retail therapy.  I've had such a rough week so I thought maybe a day to myself that included some shopping and dessert at one of my favorite cafes would brighten my mood.  It did and I also found some new very girly things.

A friend of mine had recently divulged to me that Target had a few Sonya Kashuk brush sets on sale so I decided to stop by Target and pick up a set.  Luckily enough for me there was one more left.

Absolutely cute, it comes with a case too.  All for $8.48.

Then it was on to Ulta where I found a few things to appease this spending bug.

Eye makeup removers for only $1.50.

Absolutely love these things. They make blending so easy.

This set came with a lipstick (color: Honey), a lip gloss, a mascara,
and a bronzer all for a mere $25.  You just can't beat that.

Just a stippling brush because I've clearly misplaced mine.
These are very good quality for a great price.

So there you have it my little mini haul.  Well there was a bit more.  I also purchased a tube of Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel but not for the obvious reasons.  I actually use it as primer.  Yep, it's an old trick but it works.  My makeup goes on smoothly and it keeps the oil at bay.  Some say that it's comparable to Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer and I can honestly agree.  I love Smashbox's primer but it's pretty pricey, it retails at about $36.  The Monistat gel powder only cost about $7 and it definitely gets the job done.   I'll be doing more hauls and attempting to post everyday.
Thank you for reading.

This Week In Retrospect: Adventure on the Horizon

As I stated in my post welcoming the summer season (It's Almost Here...) I will be going on vacation for a couple of days but don't worry I'll be sure to document every fun thing that I do and everything that I experience.  This week has definitely been very exciting and equally strenuous.  I've come upon a few new endeavors and I'm definitely finding my footing as it pertains to my career/blogging/relationships.  Here's what I've learned this week thus far:

  • Making time for those you love keeps you grounded and sane.
  • Sometimes you just have to step back and let things run their course.  Have faith.
  • Hard work pays off. even if it isn't immediately, something great is just around the corner.
  • When things are not adding up, you should try subtracting.
  • No more comparisons to others and their situations, I am my own biggest competition.
  • I still like Vine more than Instagram video. I'm real I don't need a filter. J/K

So with that being said this Summer seems very promising.  I hope you all have a great first day of summer and an even better weekend.  Hopefully, I'll get to film and upload some video of this vacation.  Hasta luego, amigos.

Happenings This Weekend #1

As it turns out this weekend was very busy for me (hence no post yesterday).  I was able to hang out with a few really good friends while making a few more.  All in all it was pretty good.  My friend, Raven (you'll be seeing a lot of her), and I were able to see a pretty good concert.  I was invited to do a little modeling work at a local club called Soundstage here in Columbia for Sheen Magazine.  Sheen Magazine was there for the Ace Hood concert and consequently we were able to go backstage and view the concert.  It was fun.  We also went to a little 'jewelry party' where we were able to purchase a few pieces of sparkling fun (review will come soon).  Now we're relaxing outside, well I'm updating this blog, but either way it's a much needed break from the monotony of the everyday 9 to 5.   Well, back to relaxing for me, ttyl.

I hope you all had a great weekend also.
