Ootd: Cold & Gray

This week here in the south we got a good bit of cooler weather. As pretty as it is I really do not like snow or cold weather for that matter. However, during the past few days I have gotten a chance to wear a few of my recently purchased sweaters. Here's a look at my outfit of the day and my messy closet.

What's In My Bag?

I've always loved "What's in my Bag" posts. I'm always so curious to see what everyone else carries in their bags.

I work full-time and when I'm not at work I'm generally either out with friends eating or shopping. I end up spending hours away from apartment so I need to be able to take quite a few things with me. I got my bag from Marshall's (I believe it was about $30) and I got it just so that I could have an everyday bag that's big enough to carry everything that I need (sadly my lovely Michael Kors had to be decommissioned). I like designer bags but I refuse to purchased a blatant knock off therefore I picked this bag on a whim and it hasn't let me down yet. Now to check out what's in my bag.

As I've stated this bag is from Marshall's and it's very sturdy and spacey, I love it. Inside there's a Bodycology Blackberry Vanilla hand lotion (smells delicious), my Victoria's Secret mini-makeup bag (it holds my lipsticks, blotting papers, face powder, nail color of the moment, lip liners, etc.), a hair tie, Carmex chapstick (the only on that works for me), Extra Strength Tylenol, my wallet, Dove deodorant, my keys, my card holder, car charger, my planner (featured in Advice: Planning), my journal, and some pens. Generally my phone is also in my bag.

Weekend Haul

So this weekend I went in search of maternity clothing because last week there was a constant struggle to fit into my regular clothes for work. Honestly I was hoping that I wouldn't start getting bigger until the weather got warmer because then I could wear dresses. Well, it looks like that will not be happening and the time for maternity clothes is now.

I decided to try Old Navy since I had about 3 of those Super Cash tickets that are redeemable between January 21 - 29, 2014. I wasn't really successful in finding maternity pants but I did come out with some very cute things and I also got some very useful advice from another expectant mother. Check out what I bought.

Long time no post....lately I've been without my computer and camera and it's been so tough. My phone is great but updating the blog is treacherous. Well now that my computer is back up and running, I can't say the same for my camera (but my phone will do your now), I can get back to posting regularly. Here's what I'm wearing today.

Style Inspiration: Kerry Washington

Lately Kerry Washington's style has garnered her the amount of praise that many women would die for. Not afraid to go bold with bright colors but equally unafraid of wearing an all white ensemble, she is a true style icon (in my opinion). She's classy, smart, and sophisticated and she exudes that very well in her choice of dress. Check out some of her looks...

This ensemble alone spawned my love of red lipstick.

I'm Back!

First I'd like to apologize for neglecting my blogging duties for so long (it's been almost 2 weeks since my last post). Things became a little too overwhelming for me and so I took some time to gather myself and my thoughts. Okay the true story is that I sat in front of my computer this morning and told myself either you get it together or you let it go...I decided to get it together. Big girls cry but they don't give up. So here I am. I have a lot of exciting things to share and there's nothing more in this world that I'd like better than sharing them with you all. I like to play with different looks when I go to work. Yes, I work in a office but it does not mean that I can't have fun. Now this probably isn't the best option if you work in a more conservative office but luckily for me I can get away with most looks. No point in not being fun. Graphic + pencil skirt = a fun office look.

Huge Announcement!

Today I have some of the greatest news that I could have received this year. It's one of those moments that as a blogger you wait for and it shows that your hard work is really paying off. So with that I'd like to announce that my application to the Lucky FABB 2013 Fall conference has been accepted. I am so excited and very grateful to those who read my blog. So far this has been amazing. I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the Lucky Fabb staff. They are truly awesome.

The conference will take place in New York City. Some of fashion's most influential designers, models, bloggers, and a few celebs will be in attendance. It's going to be insane and a memorable experience for me. Once again thank you.

Recently Zoe Saldana has caught mine and many others attention not just for talents as an actress but also for her effortless style. I believe that her ability to combine sexiness, effortlessness, and a sort of bohemian chic style is a large part of what makes her such an inspiration. To Knockoff or Not to Knockoff

As I mentioned last week, I have been on a bit of a shopping spree and there's nothing better than thrift shopping. So what better place to go than our neighborhood flee market? The flee market is generally where I go to find unique pieces and other useful/useless trinkets. Well as I'm perusing the wares I began to notice a huge trend...knockoffs!

Definition

Knockoff - a copy or imitation of someone or something that is popular; typically at a lower price

The Dilemma
I understand that these items aren't in many of our budgets so we seek cheaper alternatives but is it necessary to purchase a fake? Often times they aren't even believable fakes. We all know that you can not possibly purchase a Louis Vuitton Speedy for $30. That bag cost me about 2 months rent. Designers work hard to come up with new innovative fashions. They did what it took in order to create these things that many people covet so badly. If it is so important for you to have that handbag or those shoes just save up for them or catch them on sale but please no knockoffs. People who purchase the authentic items can spot a fake so that cheap imitation isn't impressing anyone. Another alternative would be to purchase a bag that is a made by a relevantly lesser known label but isn't a knockoff. The style may be similar but there is no apparent mimicking of labels. That way you're stylish but within your budget. I opt for these types of bags all the time.

Stay Classy
If you can't afford it don't purchase a cheap, ill-made version. Save for it and treat yourself if you want it that badly. That's what I did.

Style Inspiration: Lana Del Rey

Lana Lana Lana....having no idea as to who this woman was probably a detriment to my style (okay I'm being dramatic, but that's how much I admire her style). Some people adore her and some people hate her but one things for sure...you're going to notice her. She's so retro and bold. Her music is equally just as trendsetting as her style.
